AGRITURISIMO/ORVIETO

We stayed at an agriturisimo on the outskirts of Orvieto. The hotel  is a resort and working vineyard where every accommodation is named after a type of grape. Located at the top of a hill, our view stretched out over many vineyards and breathtaking vistas. La Rocca Orvieto is a very small winery producing about 50,000 bottles a year (as opposed to the neighbor who produces 1.3 million). We took part in an educational wine tasting session before dinner our first night. It was my first wine tasting ever, and such fun! I ended up ordering 3 bottles of their lovely merlot to be sent to us in the US. The labels for the bottles are striped - they match the stripes on the side of the Duomo in Orvieto.

Orvieto is quaint and inviting, making us wish we could have spent more time there.  After a tour of the beautiful Duomo, we wandered the streets and alleyways before settling in for a tasty lunch...al fresco, as usual.
